Electronics Production

We learned about printed circuit boards (PCB), their history, materiality, and the different ways to fabricate them. The different PCB fabrication methods include etching, milling, fiber laser, and vinyl cutting. Within the BCN Fab Lab, the milling method is used and the one we demo-ed today. We also learned how to solder led lights and resistors onto the pre-milled PCB boards.

I enjoyed the process of soldering, although it was more difficult than it appeared. Vikrant and I were able to solder our line of LED lights onto the pre-cut PCB board within the time we had. It was interesting to learn about all of the work that goes into a small chip, that exists in almost every electronic device we own. Of course now-days, almost all industrial electronic parts are built by machines in a massive scale. But understanding the components and the reasons things are built a certain way helps broaden my options to experimenting or creating something from an idea.
